Help & FAQ
Common questions about converting Preeti to Unicode — installing the app, the Android “unsafe app” warning, privacy, the editor, and accounts. Still stuck? Email support@tounicode.com.
Installing the app
Why do I get an “Unsafe app blocked” or Play Protect warning when installing on Android?
The app is safe. Converting your documents happens entirely inside your browser — your files never leave your device, and the app has no access to anything else on your phone. When Android “installs” a web app, it wraps it in a small package called a WebAPK. The Android version that package targets is decided by Google’s servers, not by us, and some phones (notably certain Samsung devices) flag packages that target an older version. It is a packaging quirk, not a virus or a problem with your file. You can tap “More details → Install anyway”, or update your browser (Chrome) to the latest version and try again. You do not need to install anything at all — the website works fully in your browser.
How do I install Preeti Editor on my phone or computer?
Installing is optional. On Android Chrome: open the ⋮ menu and tap “Install app” (or “Add to Home screen”). On iPhone/iPad Safari: tap the Share button, then “Add to Home Screen”. On desktop Chrome or Edge: click the install icon at the right of the address bar. This just adds an icon and offline support — every feature also works in a normal browser tab.
Do I have to install the app to use it?
No. Open the site in any modern browser and start converting. Installing only adds a home-screen icon and lets the app open offline.
Your files & privacy
Are my documents uploaded to a server?
No. Conversion runs 100% in your browser. Your Word documents and text are never sent to any server and never leave your device.
Will my Word document’s formatting survive the conversion?
Yes. The converter rewrites your original .docx in place rather than rebuilding it, so tables, images, headers, footers and other formatting are preserved exactly. Note that very complex 2-D layouts such as flowcharts are shown in a simplified way in the on-screen editor, but the downloaded file keeps the original layout intact.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once the page has loaded (or the app is installed), conversion works without an internet connection. The optional “AI Check” feature needs the internet the first time, to download its language model.
Using the editor
Why do some words have a red wavy underline?
That is the spellchecker flagging words it does not recognise in its Nepali dictionary. Right-click the word (long-press on mobile) to see suggestions, or choose “Ignore” to remove the underline. Not every underlined word is wrong — uncommon names and technical terms may simply be missing from the dictionary.
What does the “AI Check” button do?
It is an optional quality check. It reorders the spellchecker’s suggestions using the sentence context, so the most likely correction appears first. It downloads a multilingual language model once (about 179 MB, then cached for next time) and runs entirely in your browser — your text is never sent anywhere. If you do not need it, you can ignore the button.
Accounts & downloads
Do I need an account?
No account is needed to convert your document and preview the result. A free account is only required to download the converted .docx — new accounts come with free credits.
